Should new challenges be anounced in the news section?
Yesterady I noticed a new Java Applet one because a friend of mine told me.

Well, sometimes it's done, but I really don't think it's necessary. Just check the number of challenges in the upper right corner of the screen when you log in. That's what I do

But I think that would be a good idea if challenges added within 2 days are marked as new

I think, that following with this idea... it should be nice if the new challenges could be announced in news section a copuple days before they are available. In this way... people can be prepared and start it at the same time, so it adds a "competition" flavour to the challenge. For example, if administrator guys will have time next Friday they can publish a new saying: next Friday we will upload new challenge about Stegano.

I felt this "competition" flavour with the last Java-Applet challenge and it was different to other challenegs where hundreds of people already solved. Don't know if you feel the same...

Sorry but I think that would be a bad idea since it slows down the release of a new challenge. And btw I think the best way to know about new challenges is coming to the irc channel to hear other people discussing about challenges

Well.... new idea about this same topic. Let's see if it is seen with better eyes...

What about sending a mail to all registered users when a new challenge is uploaded? TBS has the email of everybody, and perhaps a checkbox could be added to the profile to say if you want to be alerted or not.

I think it is not really good way to check the number of challenges in the upper-right corner, try to remember if it has changed or not, and then search all the list of challenges checking which one could be the new one.

your ideas are becoming worse ;>

the only way i see is that new challenges and their sections are marked (maybe with a red color )
to avoid saving unneccary datas like the numbers of challenges during his last visit, tbs could calculate the new challenges with the last visit time
