Hello guys,
something strange happened to my pc today.
I got a mail from a friend, with an attachment. I saved this file on my desktop and after seeing that it was empty I tried to delete it.
I tried almost everything I could think but no way to delete this file.
It's name is "quando i conti non tornano..." without extension and probably that is the reason why I have this problem.
I tried with a dos console to delete it manually, also I tried to rename it, I tried with total commander, with copylock, I tried loading my bartPe recovery tool to access the disk, tried temporary mode on windows, tried deleting it with a php script, a C# script. I also tried to load a saved point on my machine.
Nothing worked.
I have win xp on my machine and don't know what else I could try.
The error message I get when I try to delete it is:
"Impossible to delete this file. Impossible to read either from the file or from the source disk."

Any idea?

Thank you,
sfabriz

Hello sfabriz, maybe your file has a very long file name and that's the problem.
Try opening a DOS console and make a DIR /X of your destop folder, then use the short name to delete it.

Phas.

hmm, i havent seen any problem like that so far ^^
1) i have tried to search on microsoft.com and didn't find any results. i can only encourage you to use microsoft.com again and try it maybe more succesful than me. otherwise try to google it, which didn't gave me any useful results too.
2) try linkSuperCleaner, which has helped me lots of times. If SuperCleaner can't help, then maybe AdAware could...
3) i have been trying to find info about it and you may have made some mistake or just want to fool people around here because i couldnt find any error message like this all over INTERNET ROFL

kapax: I think the message in English is:

"Cannot delete file: Cannot read from source file or disk."

Probably he did his own translation from Italian.

Thank you guys,
the short name trick didn't work.
The problem is that it seems that the file doesn't exist.
In fact, when I write "dir" from the cmd window I don't get it listed. But it's on my desktop and I don't understand it...
The error message that Phas provided is the correct one. I didn't know the english version of it hehe.

Anyway, thank you for helping, I think I'll just get the occasin to reinstall the OS since it's about 20 months old now...

doh...

Dear sfabriz,

it happened to me a long time ago - and here is how I got rid off it:

start XP in command prompt / protected mode, then change to the dir where the file is in and delete it from there.

At least that worked for me - good lucke, mate.

Ooops: I've forgotten to mention - for the help of this - you have to delete your "Peano Jordan [made by sfabriz]" ~ ROFL

Ahahahaha! No the command prompt thing didn't work and neither rebooting and unfortunately (sry my friend Relee) I cannot remove my Peano Jordan challenge!

Hehe, anyway, I took the chnce to reinstall my system as it was really overloaded with programs I don't use any more.
I'm looking forward to get to see that friend of mine who sent me the mail 'cause I wanna break his hands so he'll never send me a mail again... ahahahaha...

Cheers guys and thank you for helping.

Well maybe it was a virus. Same thing happened to me a long time ago when NAV reported some infected file that can't be deleted.
Reinstalling the system is always a good thing - You can get rid of junks and useless stuff :pc5:
