This is help that I need badly. It's not challenge related, but it's a problem nonethless. Here's the situation. I'm 15 years old. I live with my parents, and they pay the bills. They won't get me an internet connection at home. They say that we don't need one for anything. The only place I can get online is at school. I need someone to give me reasons to use to persuade them. Here are some that I've tried that have failed. 1. I need it for school Reply: "Open an encyclopedia or the dictionary. In my day we had to do that all the time" 2. It heps me stay connected to friends Reply: "Use a fucking phone!" 3. So I can check my grades Reply: "Ask a teacher for christ's sake!" Other reasons parents give for being against it: 1. Porn 2. They think I'll hack something 3. Viruses 4. They don't want me online 24:7 |

You need a friendly networked neighbor, a wi-fi card, and a can of stew. Do the right thing and tell your parents. |

Element: I'm sure your parents are right, if they say you don't need the connection then probably you don't need it. I didn't have a connection when I was 15, I even didn't have a computer but that was not a problem for me to learn some computer related stuff. Your goal shouldn't be to have everything but to get the best of what you have. I'm sorry but I can't give any idea of why a 15 years old person NEEDS an internet connection, I would say that they need to be connected to the net LESS hours a day than they do. And yes, internet may be a link to the devil |

The point is well taken Phas, and I understand that my parents are worried that someone my age does not have the maturity to keep away from porn and things like that. I only want a connection to talk to people and to work on challenges and school stuff. But I understand where you're coming from nonetheless. For now, I'm trying to show my parents that it's actually nice to have an internet connection. For things like research and school, it's unmatched. The number of resources that it makes available is infinite. I'll fight until I get that connection though. I guarantee you that! |

Just got a new (evil) idea - Create a video with the title "Mommy, I want a connection" - Publish the video on YouTube - Get thousands of votes - Then show it to your parents. They will surely change their minds |
