Well.. perhaps i'm the only one with a view of this kind... but it seems that the cryptos are growing at an exponential rate and perhaps it's getting to the point where there are "too" much. I dunno... perhaps some people really enjoy this type of challenge, but in my mind, there is only so much combitoriral logic i can take before i scream! Perhaps there could be some sort of mechanism for newly subbmitted challs... summit like, when n number of users complete a newly subbmitted, it is voted on to see if it joins the hallowed ranks of "proper tbs chall". Just a thought..... perhaps this topic could do with some discussion?

for example, i wasn't all that keen on my voice challenge as it stands... partly cause i think that it takes too much work for some people, and none for others... I doubt his would have passed a voting system, and yet it still stands.... Sure, i know it serves it's purpose when some ppl solve it and others don't, but i don't see many getting any kind of enjoyment from solving it, as i do with others. A few other challs like this pop to mind...

Anyway... *steps back from the floor*
What do you all think?

well, i think you have a point there s4dd, but as for your voice challenge, it was only that i couldn't hear that special word, the rest was understandable for me :)

/me takes "another" verbal beating for his fantastic accent...
;)

But any thoughts on the a system for newly submitted challenges?

it has his pros and its cons, for example, do you 'activate' the challenge after a certain amount of time? or do you activate the challenge as soon as it's posted and then vote?
if the last you can get the following situation:

i come across a challenge which i can't solve, so I vote no
if many people do the same, then the crypto "could be good" but as many people can't solve it, they may take it the easy way.

Maybe something to take a good thought about :)

well, in my mind.. i thought that only people who solved a particular challenge may vote on it.... after n solves (perhaps 10?) then the voting is activiated... if 10 people don't solve it in a couple of months, perhaps it isn't worth keeping :)

But you'll only be able to vote yes or no when you have solved the challenge, at that point you can decide if it's good or not, not before it :)

Sup,

I like Cryptos, but lately the submitted Cryptos are kinda strange. I dont say HARD or IMPOSSIBLE but its just if you dont figure out the way the author did them i will need ages to solve them, since they are not based on some wellknow and established cryptosystem but on someones individual thoughts. I personally enjoy e.g. Cabreros Cryptos they are easy in their way they are encrpyted but it takes ages to figure out what he want us to do with the ciphertext and i cant solve the last 3 submitted by him :)

Anyway i could say the same for Stegos...very many Stego-Challenges and sometimes you need to think around 3 corners and still are not close on the thoughts the author had when created them and you cant solve them at all. Have you ever tried Goats latest *g* :) ? No clue....seriously...

Maybe as first stp it would herlp to really split them in kinda basic, and wellknow crypto-systems and then a 2nd division where individual cryptos may be postet. A voting system where the ppls can vote to *Drop* a challenge i dont like. I think then all the hard ones will be dropped since they seem *impossible*...just let ppls like Ceasum and TheHiveMind work on them...they will get it sooner or later and then u may ask em for hint s*g*....

could also be an option, but for example, take Wild Wild West for a change, nobody is able to solve (so it seems), so we all can't vote for that one :)

lol.. i hear you. But i'll say it again... a challenge can only be voted on if you SOLVE it.... and then it's a yes/no/maybe affair. You don't vote to rid a chall... only if it's to be included...

@inferno... yeah, but that's why i suggested a time limit for a challs trial period.

Erik suggested that yesterday: split up the cryptos on well-known cryptosystems and others
