Nope,

like I said in the chat, I dont play for ranking. If there is one or not, that makes no difference for me.
I just said that reading that file already would lead me to a solution in most cases i think. I dont know if the admins read it or not, but when they dont read it, where's the point in that file then?
I'm just wondering about the file...

How about rank 0 for admins? That would be cool :P

Or you could have like a Admin Rank Box at the top of the Ranking page that tells where the Admin WOULD be if he were in the ranking therefore they are still ranked in a sense but not along with other memebers.

The point of the file is to give a simple method for admins to evaluate whether the challenge is worth uploading or not.

If I submit a crypto chall with "ashd dfr <.th.s. >AER> " and a solution of "UberCrypto" how do the admins determine whether it is a good crypto or not?

Looking at the HowTo means they don't have to solve it before it is uploaded, if the HowTo contains "You add all the prime numbers between 1 and 1e10 an xor the value with my birthday and divide by the address of my milkman" they can safely discard it (I hope :)).

If anyone else has a better solution on how to objectively determine if a challenge is worth uploading, I'm all ears.

bb

PS : @Phas - that was an example, you cannot determine my birthday or my milkman's address from it. Before you try :)

You're wrong bb, I decrypted it and now I know you'll be born on 36 of march of year 2263 and your milkman lives in Mars :P

Nah, seriously, this thread is going by a wrong way... but maybe a new checkbox in "My account" with the text "Want to compite" will solve some problems.

The point is that people do look at where they are in the rankings. When you are an admin I personally think it's better not to appear in the rankings because it is fairly pointless for them, but not for others. I'm not saying that admins cheat!!! But on the other hand you cannot read how a crypto is done or a stegano is done and then forget and rediscover the method!!

relee *giggles* a bit about that discussion.

Simply due to the fact, that this was "one" (but not the only one) reason for my retirement from TBS. Well known qoute: "someone could drop a bunch of rice beans onto the ground and call it challenge" - while there's no (real world usage) algo behind it. (and for the long timers - that was the reason for "bitching" for a voting system - to allow new-commers to judge a challenge on the real value)

I'm currently working (more or less) on a challenge site, which has this concept in from the beginning - before a challenge get's loaded, it is reviewed at the Syllabus. And in the case it's non-educational --> bin.

Another aspect is the "admin playing" vs. "admin competing" concept: on our side we handle it by "group leaders": section leaders can play - but can't compete - simply due to the fact that they've reviewed the challenges. So yes, they can still solve them - but wouldn't be included in the ranking for that section.

Again - relee *giggles* for the evolution.

Again - relee *giggles* about what will come next ???

Cheers,

Well I have said before that I am happy to try out challenges and give my honest opinion before they go live.

Obviously for me crackits and steganos are not my strong point, and I may not be able to solve the challenge of other categories. But for example a science or a crypto chall I could probably make a good effort and let the admins know my opinion. Perhaps as was mentioned before, there could be volunteers for certain categories, who will try out the challs before they go live and give feedback to the admins.

Just a suggestion

Well my opinion, here it goes.

Admin in ranking: I think it should be a good idea, to put them in a different box, than the normal users.

Testing Challs: Well, actually I think the chal lmust be send to some low ranked AND high ranke dpeple. And they need to say if its doable or not. Maybe send it to 10 people, and 5 need to solve it before it goes online. And need to vote an average of 5, otherwise, to the waste, with some comments why it isnt good enough. But maybe a different rankin gpage for the waste would be cool :P. For the die hards!.
