davs, if you have ubuntu installed, and it's working for you I would stick to it for a while. Basically(IMHO) you could distribute distros a bit like this easy to use, but not that adventurous <------------------> source distro's .. a lot of time compiling, but it has genuine opensource feel Ubuntu, mephis <-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> gentoo, slackware in between is a gray zone of mainly: Fedora Core, SuSe(don't use this microsoft owns it now),Arch,Debian,... where it's really all about taste, and desire,... But if you really wanted an answer, I'd say waste some time with Fedora Core (it's an .rpm based ). Less friendly but ime pretty decent. Now the real thing that you should be worrying is what am i going to do with it . I would strongly suggest that you try to rebuild your kernel with the options you want, and use that (whatever distro you use) and play with that . Another fun thing to play with is the network. so you can get a feel of how open linux really is. There probably better things but hey, i'm no expert. |

yeah if you have problems like this you will be faster of IRCing to irc.freenode.org/#ubuntu you typically don't want to use airomon-ng yet airodump is more interesting however i don't fully understand your problem. you should read the man pages of following man iwconfig man ifconfig man airomon man netstat man route ndiswrapper is a way to use the original (windows) drivers in linux, often this doesn't result in ful functionality, like promiscuous mode. |

i know that ndiswrapper is use to load windows drivers in linux, anyway thx for help! i will ask someone on irc about this problem! ..and about airmon and airdump, we must use airmon to enter in monitor mode, and after that we start airodump and thell him that we only want to capture IV's files, after that aireplay and finally aircrack! i think that is a way, and u rhican? Are u having your way? |

I'm not sure but I think most of those air monitoring tools don't work when using ndiswrapper. You'll need to use a native a driver to use the tools. Maybe it's the first question to ask on the ubuntu channel. |

yeah hardware support isn't always that great (although imho quite decent these days) it's a handicap ... companies not writing drivers for linux, companies not even giving out specs for hardware, linux dev's writing drivers in less than optimal conditions ... here is a list of websites i collected over the years i don't know how up to date they are, but when buying hardware i usually check these wireless http://linux-wless.passys.nl/ scanners http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/driver.pl webcams http://mxhaard.free.fr/spca5xx.html printers http://www.linuxprinting.org/printer_list.cgi it's really a handicap in linux though ... i'll aggree with anybody on that point ... o and i almost forgot again, be sure to try out BERYL www.beryl-project.org |

That's what happens when all the Moderators are "Busy in real life" I TAKE ADVANTAGE MUHAHAHAHAHHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHA no seriously not moderating me is bad for public health... ps: another reason is because vista isn't released yet, and still suxors ass btw there is a Memory corruption exploit, that also effects vista out in the WILD ever been there? the wild is a cool place? no ? well try this for starters http://www.security.nnov.ru/Gnews944.html it's probably a bug that has been in windows since 2000 and also in the vista buiilds... that's what you get when there is no peer review ... In More than 7 years, nobody, nobody at microsoft looked at this code and said Dang that's might strange why does it do that? Just to get an idea on how innovative vista is going to be .. More than 7 years something like this goes unnoticed in a part of the system that is used constantly ... now I don't know but i do not understand that 7 years... Let me give you that number one last time.7 bloody years. It took less time than any of the World Wars .. So you are saying, huh it must be in some shitty code nobody ever uses? Nope it's in the MESSAGEBOX api. The code that draws the little popup box craving your attention ... But don't worry, don't you dare to worry. Microsoft is working on a patch. |

Yes quangntenemy that would be my fault. I just happened to pick up on something someone said and thought I would ask a quick question. oops obviously not a quick answer But the thread has been interesting for me - I never knew there was so many builds for linux. Anyway I will review this thread when I get my old laptop back and try and install linux - to experiment - who knows I may love it |
