did you know there are 31.536.000 seconds in a year. Some of the geeks who panicked probably did a quick 2^32 (+-4.000.000.000) mod 31.000.000 == 136 , 1970+136=2101 and figured every program who uses unix timestamps which is virtually all C programs is still safe for a while. But there is a kicker unix time doesn't use 32 bit int values. It uses 32bit Signed integer values so that's about half the years .. some 68 years .. and 1970+68== 2038 ... and well that's close enough to have earned the name Y2K38 bug already wikipedia it. January 19'th 2038 it's doomsday again.. Better upgrade to 64bit by then .. did you also know we "randomly" add seconds to the clock to fix it? |

Did you know, pcworld and countless others have elected windows vista to be the biggest tech disappointment of 2007. Did you know "Microsoft windows vista home basic" is a $250(prices differ gravely, i can but an oem cd for €79) operating system and does _not_ have Aero. I would feel robbed if I didn't know. I dare to believe that more than 1% of the vista code, is code that works against the customer. wga(how many versions did they dev of this already? money well spent?), pointless limitations, code that locks the os to specific hardware, code that attempts to lock users out of ring 0, .. If you look at prices for vista and office, you know what the real cash cow is, so be very careful in considering the openXML standard, chances are that it doesn't truly want to be a standard. did you know I'm not the only person on earth that thinks vista flops, these people have found the time and energy to compile a huge list of articles. here |
