Well, I think erik is busy, so my latest science challenge has not been uploaded. I think it is a really interesting and fun challenge. I want people to try it and give me some feedback. Here it is:
QuoteQuote from Pjsk8:
My insurance company forced me to take a new type of medical examination involving my DNA. With the recent completion of the Human Genome Project, scientists are SURE they can read your life through your DNA.

However, when the results from my test came in, my boss "regretfully" informed me that they had to let me go. He didn't know what was wrong with me, he only told me that my DNA was unusually wide, meaning that the length of one turn of my DNA was longer than that of most humans. The doctors are almost positive that this will have a negative effect on my lifespan. My boss knows nothing of the length of my DNA. The only thing my boss told me was that the formula he used to determine this was:

"r(t)=bcos (t)i + bsin(t)j + ((1-b^2)^1/2)tk"
for one helix of the double-helix model.

Can you help me find the length of one turn of one helix of my DNA?

(In place of 22/7, use 'pi')

I hope you guys enjoy. Thanks.

I do not like what some of you folks do!!!
Do not submit a challenge and send it again to erik, if I say it is not going to be uploaded!
If one of use tells to it is not going to be uploaded then it is not going to be uploaded!!!
If some think that they have to be smarter than everyone else, we can't accept challenges of you any longer!

That's the problem! Erik does not specify whether the chall is to be uploaded or not! I sent it to him, he read, but no response. I personally feel that it is a nice challenge, but if he's not gonna post (or even reply) I want to find a way for people to try my challenge. I've already gotten compliments for it, no matter what you guys think, so I'm content. Stop complainingt theblacksheep, I'm jsut trying to get people to learn something new. Isn't that what this site is all about? It's good to think about what you post before you actually say it sometimes.

From the other thread :

I don't think anyone has taken the time to.

Well I have taken time to but this integration is not so easy, or maybe I do something wrong. :S

There's an easy way to solve this prob in 5 or 6 small steps. You jsut have to be able to see how you can simplify/rewrite stuff, then you have to know what to do to solve for what the challenge asks for. Once you figure it out, it's really not all that hard ;).

P.S. S0410N3, you are the only one I know who has actually attempted this problem. Everyone else that I told just looked and didn't try lol. You seem really interested in this kinda of stuff :).

Yes, I think I'm near the end but I still have to find a trick for the last simplification.
I keep on trying. Thanks
