Hi folks. I've downloaded Cain and mdcrack for some of the crypto-challenges, but my anti-virus keeps classifying them as malicious. Quite every antivir signature list seems to contain these progs, classified as badd. Could U give me some advice? thx |

I have the same problem. The reason is that someone could load these programs onto your computer to crack passwords, so they are potentially malicious. Whenever I need to run Cain, I turn off my anti-virus. Not great, but better than nothing. |

Some AV software allows you to have 'Ignore' directories. If you set Cain's directory to be ignored (after you have assured yourself you have a safe copy) this may help avoid this problem. But make sure you have a 'good' copy first bb |

i've said this a lot before: AV software is 80% bad 20% good all those "hacktool" warnings .. I hate it when they make money by needlessly scaring people, it's kinda like "if you don't prostitute yourself you i will call imigration" yet it would sound a little bit more like this "if you don't run our overpriced piece of crap for your piece of crap closed source operating system, all you personnal data is going to be destroyed" doing as bb said, adding ignore directories is a good plan, just never set an AV to automaticly delete .. in case you missed something |
