I'm not sure if somebody deleted this topic? or i just didn't create it right. I was pretty sure I posted this
already. If it was deleted for a reason do let me know. (or just blank out the offending parts)

So this challenge isn't just my first challenge on TBS it's the first challenge ever hosted by anyone other
than rhican himself. So Erik is taking quite a risk putting it up. Do give it a try :P

This might be a good time to expose some of the challenges that didn't pass the Turing test before.
there's Three I can still remembe.r quite well

Some crackit: from the time I was still an assembly programmer, with an md5 at the core
but a lot of trap doors and anti debugging tricks. With at the core assembly tips and tricks
-> mainly didn't make it because i was never happy with it

A linux "challenge", which was a bash script called extract. which would also very sneaky extract a modified sourcefile
to a inconspicuous name in /tmp. Most people didn't notice it. The challenge was then a linux program, which if you debugged it
got to see the source. Some critical parts commented out though.
-> too long ago to remember what was up with this one.

An exploit challenge: That consisted of the task of generating 2 brainfuck programs that print a different string, but have the same MD5
-> so that the challenger *finally* understands the weaknesses of MD5
-> once you learn how this doesn't take more than 10 minutes to create these programs
(submitted to TBS and NF)

A stegano challenge: consisted of a .zip with a .txt inside.
-> the .zip is larger than the .txt
-> search for the word "skip" in rfc1951 to find when bits are skipped in the .zip file format (.zip are bitstream sections which are byte alligned)
-> would have been called rfc african queen for obvious reasons
(submitted to NF and hackingschool.org)

huh that's 4.

I thought some of the ideas were pretty clever, hence the execution must have sucked.

well, he did know "of" one, but he didn't know the exact challenge, probably sent it to the wrong person.
But I did mention it in the pm's about this challenge. Just because I like splitting hairs :)

Anyway how can you know this challenge is better if you haven't solved the one that is online?

Perhaps he just noted "deside" with an s instead of a c and figured it was some noob who created the challenge :p
