Hi.. I don't mean to be rude about the people on this site but I think there are many users here that created a username and then just left. There are a lot of users with 0 solved and 1 solved. Should they be deleted or have like a pm sent to them asking them if they want there account deleted. Just a thought.

iirc there were some ideas about that. The one I liked was that if you want to keep your user account you should solve like more than N challs in some amount of time to make your account permanent.

I dont know what you guys think about it?

If you want my 2p, I say just leave it as it is. Just deleting people without notice sounds a bit gnarly and too 'american' to me. And if you send them a pm, you're obviously not going to get a reply from the (not necessarily permanently) inactive ones.

Maybe they had another account before, but deleted it because they weren't too fond of their pm inbox cluttering up with annoying messages like "hint plox? kthxbai!"? Maybe they just created their account to keep track of the community? Maybe one of them is a poor little zimbabwan kid, lets say his name is Mploktarh Kwanbab (or does that sound more like a klingon or an orc? :P), who happens to be a genius, but solving his first challenge is taking him months because he barely speaks English, didn't get any proper education, and the only opportunity for him to do any challenges is when his mommy takes him and his 11 little brothers and sisters to a neighbouring town to see his daddy once a week, who happens to have an old vax which, if he's lucky, he gets to use for about 15 minutes?

There are still plenty of usernames to chose from, and as far as I know, inactive users don't cause any problems. If anything, maybe there could be some kind of rule that disables their rank if they're inactive for a long time and only have one or two challenges solved. Or maybe puts the account in statis and flags it so that it can be excluded from non-critical database transactions, if there are any.

I totally agree with you. There is no need to delete an account that might be unused.
At the moment, database size is not making any trouble.

Cu, Erik :)

Good idea.. I was just wondering. You know there has to be a lot of users that just got a username to check out a few challenges though and just never came back. But I like your idea unstable.

These discussions always reappear, and i just don't understand why.

The only reason i can think of is that you feel that "user count"-counter in the top right corner is a big fat liar. I recommend you learn to accept the fact that "users" doesn't mean active users :)

But yeah, unstable put that idea to words better :). This membercounter incorperates a few things, one of those is age and maturity of the site. if we really agressively deleted all the innactive accounts say those inactive for more than 6 months, then my account would have been deleted many times before. And we will be left with a fairly small group <300 or so imho. Now that just would do no justice to the rich history of black shadows.

I'm sure you meant "bright-shadows" but thats alright :) well its settled then. Erik made it plain to see that it isn't taking up space.
