just wondering why stegano 14, 15, 16, 17 have different urls

It's just a little bit mixed or something...
Special 6 has this url =>
http://www.bright-shadows.net/challenges/crypto30/crypto30.php

that has nothing to say. when we moved the web site from one server to an other everything got a little bit mixed up.

the number of a challenge is simply determined by some value in it's row in the database. The names of the directories have no meaning at all. This makes managing the site much more comfortable. To change the order of the challenges we simply alter the database. Otherwise we would have to rename all the folders and so on...
So the path names and also the numbers don't specify a challenge directly.

why dont yoy use dicriptive names for the challenges then?

like:

challenges/mone_it/index.php

in stead of:

challenges/stegano7/stegano7.php

Would be logical imho

Well, that's right...

I think it is simply tradition (at the beginning all the challenges had to be in the folder challengegroup+index)...
