I've been thinking that some of the challenges are not in the right section. Specifically the two that spring to mind are the two new JavaScript Challenges (Knights Tour and Treasure Your Smiley). Now yes they are challenges in Javascript but they they don't test your knowledge of Javascript like the other ones in the group so perhaps are better suited in Special? Both rely on more than just your undertsanding of JS. In the forums for Tresure Your Smiley you see Quote: the code doesn't help you for the first part of this challenge i think. Understanding the source of Knights Tour still doesn't help you determine the correct path as there are still multiple possibilities that fit the code. After all, if I wrote some Javascript that displayed the text " Decipher Me - Lrf V nz ovggre V ybfg zl Fzvyrl " and nothing else save the standard TBS solution box, would that be Javascript or a Crypto? bb PS Any takers on my little JS/Crypto challenge |

I'm working on them - I've done one and am looking at the other. I've no problem with the challenges themselves - I just think that they would be better suited to another category. My ultrahard crypto/js challenge was ironic (note the smiley after it!). I'm not bitching that they are too hard - I freely admit that there are many many challenges that are way beyond me - check out my ranking!! But the point still stands though, I think, that my js/crypto challenge would not rightly sit in the JS category and as such I believe there is an argument to be made for potentially reclassifying the others. hey bb, They may move my challenge (JavaScript 12: "The True Knight") to programming section... it might fit better over there... But I think Erik and thebs are thinking of reclassifying all challenges, so I think all will be changed soon anyways! To come back to your problem: yes there are lot's of challenges in the wrong section, but this is because there is only a thin line between stegano/crypto/special and programming/crackit's etc... And can't all challenges be solved through coding your own program... so that would be programming section.... or is it a crackit if you can solve it through BFing. That's the problem. About relee's challenge... needs bf-ing and other techniques too... so it would fit better in the specials. What a mess (j/k). Coolest challenge site ever! Greetz BaRa |

Hey BaRa, Don't get me wrong - I'm not picking on yours The only reason I feel it may be in the wrong section is because even after fully understanding the JS, there are still multiple solutions. Put another few points on the path and bang! it qualifies IMHO. Quote: And can't all challenges be solved through coding your own program... so that would be programming section....or is it a crackit if you can solve it through BFing. That's the problem. You're right of course BaRa but I think it depends on what you understand the sections to be. For me, a crackme has the objective of obtaining the 'Good Boy' message. Be this through bf'ing, writing my own program to do it or plain good luck. Some of the crackits have mulitple answers which are accepted as good by the crackit but not by the site - thats wrong too IMO. It certainly doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the site (save my missing smilies - mainly due to you and Harley&relee ). I love it here and have learnt a lot so please don't take it that I am knocking your challenge BaRa. Ultimately you're never going to please all the people all of the time otherwise they would all be lumped into one category!!. I was just voicing my opinions. Keep up the good work all. We now resume your scheduled tbs'ing bb |
