My 2 cents in regards to categorize the challenges

I’m just a n00b - but I wanted to provide at least some feedback / input on the recent discussions on IRC and forum. So that TBS stays as attractive as it is right now.

Here is what I would do (if it would be my “TBS”):

Get for each challenge section, 3 ambassadors:
* one selected from the administrators
* one elected from the users
* one who is not so advanced (elected from administrators and users during a poll).

All 3 ambassadors will have equal voting rights.

Those ambassadors define based on criterias like: education, skill needed, … - in which section the challenge should fall: mandatory or bonus.

The ambassadors will have to define those criterias together with the challenge providers.

The challenge providers are requested to outline in writing (or perhaps closed forum - their intention and background, what they try to teach). Each new challenge which wants to get hosted, is requested to come with such a description.

Anything which is not educational focused should by default get into the bonus section.

All ambassadors are excluded from participating at those sections. Their participation is on a free will - and optional. It’s a service towards the community.

The credit system I would run around the following approach:

multiplier = (total amount of mandatory challenges available within this category) / (amount of challenges solved within this category).

<credit per category> = (multiplier from this category) * (amount of challenges solved from this category) + <bonus challenges solved from this category>

<overall credit> = <credit from category #1> + … <credit from category #99>

--- Just my 2 cents - if it would be my site.

Hi,

sounds very great and interesting. The question is how this voting etc. should work in detail. I mean best would be if the "ambassadors" could "rate" the challenges online or something like that. And maybe 3 ambassadors are too few. Don't know. But it seems to be some great idea. Unfortunately I'm having massive probs with my computer atm, so I'm sorry that the site just lurks around.

Cu, Erik :-)

the amount for ambassadors is carefully selected - since they don't play in those categories in the future - but I agree - 3 might not be enough - but since most people only want to "enjoy" the challenges - and don't want to spend anything - but, yes, it could be increased easily. The more the better - I would consider a maximum of 9 people - equally balanced between the 3 selections (selected, elected, volunteered).

Voting on my considerations - from the ambassadors - would be the best. So it's an equal chance for every chall - and the better a challenge is described for eduation - the more it pays off for the community - and the more likely the challenge will get into the mandatory section.

But again, it's just my 2 cent's.

So folks, think about "what u would do" and provide more opinions.

:read:Vote INFERNO for ambassador:read:
Great idea it is relee, but it takes some time for implementation, but you will get the above :)
Maybe if this is going to be implemented, maybe a random chooser will do, at least for the active people.

There's just one thing I don't understand clearly:

Can you explain this a bit more simple, I'm dutch remember :)

Sure Inferno, I always have time for my Dutch friends.

If a person would act as an ambassador - it's obvious, that he can't participate at this section in those challenges - since the ambassador need to know the solution path & the concept behind the challenge.

This might not sound too tricky for the top notch folks at this instance - since they have solved most of them already.

But how would you handle new challenges, which need to get categorized for hosting?

I was thinking about, that each new chall should come with a very detailed description to the ambassadors of the individual category - and they have to define, if it will become a mandatory chall - since the education within this chall is proper and adding things to the TBS picture.

If the challenge is not adding any new knowledge to the players - then - at least for me, it would fall into the bonus section.

And in order to make this decision, there are only 2 possible ways to base this decision on:
1) you solve it and then make up your mind - but you might miss the point, the creator was trying to make
2) you get a description, which tells you in details, what it's about and the needed steps

But since it's not technical practical to use 1) for every chall - since some are not solved so far, I only see 2) as realistic - since we can't put challs like "contact" into bonus, if we don't even know the concept behind it.

:S ;-D :-) :idiot: B-) :hip:

I just wonder, why only Inferno, Erik and Caesum do express their opinions.

Aren't there any other people out there who care? Care about the community and people trying to help to educate them?

I was expecting a lot of replies on this post - but obviously too many people don't care :(

Do those other folks only really care for NEW challs and RANKING?

Please gang, let Erik & TBS know your opinion - so that they can change TBS in a way, most of your appreciate.

That's a good idea! But I like the fun solving challenges and I think so do the other! That's why I don't know what to say... Hope we'll get more volunteers :)
