You do know you have to tell your browser to use localhost:8080 as proxy, right? I don't think your router is the problem.

Ive been picking around with it ever since i finished hackerslab.org so, around a year ago? and i still cant get it to work. im thinking i installed/uninstalled it about ooh, 278 times? it never workd so now im just going to give up the idea of it ever working!

Wait, is it possible that SNORT-IDS would block it?

I'm not very familiar with SNORT-IDS, but I doubt that is the reason. There are some things you could try though; first make sure you have the latest version (can be found at http://www.proxomitron.info/files/index.html ). Then check if some other program might be using port 8080, if there is, go to the config screen in proxomitron and pick a free port. Next, while it is running, use your browser to connect to localhost:8080 (or in case you picked a different portnumber, use that) WITHOUT using a proxy server. If all goes well, you should get an error message from proxomitron, but now you do know that it is listening on port 8080 (or some other port). Next, set up your browser to use localhost:8080 (or, again, any other port you chose) as a proxy server, open the log window in proxomitron, connect to some website, and pray it works.

Hope this helps...

I DO have the latest version; No other program is using port 8080 OR ANY other port i designated for the proxy; I get "Page cannot be displayed" when i try to connect localhost:8080; So of cours proxomitron is not listening on port 8080 even if i tell it to.

no it isn't the router
no it isn't the network

but if it were

just use a packetsniffer to see if your browserpackets are sent to localhost:8080
and if proxomitron connects to the sites.

if you need to surf through a proxy you need to tell proxomitron the proxy
and for pete's sake press the 'apply' button
