Hello hello, one of my friends asked me to make there band website, witch i did and it works, but the thing is, it doesn't show up on any search engines, i put a meta name and description and all, but it doesn't even find the web site, even if i put the website name in the search. How can i put it on say google or yahoo? it's a new band, and they dont really have money for this so it's all been done for free so far. ... Help? |

You need to add your URL to Google, and wait for a while http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl Same thing goes for Yahoo I guess |

Many book's have been written on this topic .. however i bet they contain more or less the folowing: First of all you should know that nearly no search engine uses the meta tags.. They are only set by few sites, and if they are set they are set by the more comercial sites making searching them less attractive. since a "commercial" page of a consultant bureaux would be ranked higher than a university thesis for example .. Make sure that you have a descent URL not just users.something.ext/x41562455 make sure it is linked too from other websites make sure there isn't a robots.txt that denies being listed make sure that the title of the page and the text contains the logical combination of search terms make sure that the band name is something "special", if it would be called "New Stuff"or "Bara Sex" you will obviously need to compete with many other results make sure you wait a while because google and yahoo crawl the web, The last figures i heard (and that was a while back) is that they crawled the entire web in about a month. So waiting about a month would help .. You could log the useragent of your visitors with simple php, so you could verify that "googlebot" visited your site. |

Hi HynFaerie, what you actually are looking for is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It is very popular in Webmasters topics nowadays... As rhican said is right: ppl wrote a lot of books about this topic (there are also tools like "SEO Toolkit" or SEO Studio". This topic is very, very complicated and "long" cause of it's, if we can call it so, topic - splittings. I personally would suggest you to check entirely out this page: http://www.ipagerank.com/ (it is more concentrated on the PageRank(r) system used by google but it explains enough the way of thinking) and afterwords looking for: http://www.best-web-directories.com/. Hope it helped a bit more in your research... Regards |
