Are those of you who live in Germany worried about what is happening? I'm worried and I don't even live there. The only thing this guy is guilty of is running a tor server.

I think the main problem here is that most people don't know enough about computers .... in this case even the police
I think this guy will not be put into prison and I don't think this guy will have trouble any more .... but never the less an interesting story ... now I know I will not run a tor server

That's the problem mate... it is not illegal to run a given server, yet actions like these put fear into a lot of the populace.

Less tor servers = more pressure on existing servers = even slower speeds + hitting bandwidth limitations on those servers earlier. It's a bad cycle.

And no, he might not be going to jail, but to go through that sort of thing for no reason is ridiculous. Not to mention that as of Thursday they are trying to pin a computer fraud charge on him. It's just wrong.

They shouldn't abuse tor. But Tor has a more profound purpose.

If you want to sent an anonymous bomb thread email, you can easily do that without tor. Just think of all those remailers.

Although I didn't read all of this, I'm pretty sure this is not too shocking. But offcourse it's a reality you need to be aware of. You also don't run a tor exitnode by mistake. He was aware of which risks there were. The police was powerless and probably did all they could, it est very annoying.

methods to identify persons in the internet (and how to bypass them):

• configuration profile (I don't know if this is done .... Why doesn't the law enforcement agency want Internet Privacy?

There are a few sentences, mainly those where you use "more difficult" that sound funky to me. Often replacing it with "harder" sounds better. at least to me.
